Philip Payne Launch new website... A new way to share what we do

Philip Payne has re-created its Emergency Lighting website to make finding out about our company and products even easier.  A revised and updated Product page allows visitors to see details and images of our emergency lighting products, and a simple registration gives access to in-depth information and technical specifications detailing design options, installation possibilities and all the current British Standards to which the products adhere.

The re-design of the site allows specifiers and architects to see exactly what they are considering for their projects, and the Philip Payne range is comprehensive enough to offer exactly the right solution to any emergency lighting requirement.

The site is not just a catalogue – we highlight our technical and design expertise that makes us the pre-eminent emergency lighting provider in the UK. New technologies are continually coming on stream and the Philip Payne design team incorporates these into our products allowing us to develop digital control systems and DALI technology, including our unequalled central testing system- Scanlight AT. This communicates via mobile phone technology (GSM) to provide web based and E Mail reporting.

As energy efficiency takes centre stage in lighting briefs, we are pleased to be able to provide highly efficient lighting systems as well as taking care of our own energy efficiency via our Carbon Offsetting programme. Reducing environmental impact is not just a green issue, it is a business and financial imperative in the lighting world.

We hope you explore the site and find what you are looking for. If by any chance you need further help, we are always available to answer those difficult questions where you need an expert in the field to help guide you.

We are part of the F W Thorpe Group of lighting companies, so we have the experience and backing of a major industry leader behind us to allow for research and development to play a major part in our business model. This security gives us the solid base to continue to develop new technologies and products to provide our customers with the best emergency lighting systems available.

Bridging the Emergency Lighting Quality GAP

gap.eu
Following successes at new stores in Rome, Venice, and Milan the Philip Payne TYKE fitting is due to be installed at the soon-to-open GAP store in Turin.
There is no mystery “shrouding” the reason why the designers have stuck with TYKE for Turin as the Emergency LED downlight offers clean appearance and excellent spacings resulting in fewer lighting points, their associated savings and, most importantly, minimal impact on the design.

Even though the lighting design was established in the UK, Payne have worked directly with local installers on each of the Italian projects who have benefited from the simplicity of installation the product offers.

Architectural Emergency Signs - A new release from Philip Payne

ARCA Joins the Family
A New emergency exit light fitting is to be launched by Philip Payne in the Summer of 2011. The High Power LED backlit recessed or surface mounted architectural signs - ARCA and ARCA Plus - are being released soon.

The ARCA light fitting is available in central battery or self contained plus Autotest and DALI versions and carries on the tradition of stylish, effective and innovative products for the Architectural community. From a design perspective, the absence of visible fixings creates a “floating Legend” style of sign and offers clean lines to match its surroundings whilst maintaining its core role as a safety and emergency feature.

The ARCA Plus comes complete with an LED downlighter for compliance to BS5266 pt 10 and maintains the design and performance levels of the entire ARCA family.

These lights are part of the range of architectural emergency exit lighting supplied by Philip Payne. Philip Payne offer a backbone range of quality standard products but more importantly encourage direct dialogue with architects and designers to ensure, via product variation or bespoke work, aesthetic aspirations and requirements are fully met.

Whilst ensuring that aesthetic or mounting issues are resolved Philip Payne remain committed to quality and this is demonstrated by Membership of LIF (Lighting Industry Federation) and ICEL (Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting).

Philip Payne Ltd is a registered ISO9000 company.

Recently supplied emergency lighting will be on duty for upcoming opening nights at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast and the Theatre Royal, Newcastle in the next few months as rebuilding works are completed in Belfast and refurbishment concluded at Newcastle.

If you like low key Emergency Lighting – Join The Club

Philip Payne’s SPECTO Automatic Self Testing Emergency Lighting System has been selected for use in The Arts Club in Mayfair’s Dover Street. Discreet LED downlighters and architectural emergency signage will be linked together to centrally report any problems identified in the automatic routine testing regime (problems such as the condition of the batteries or other functional issues).

Founded by Lord Leighton and Charles Dickens in 1863, The Arts Club contains many elegant Victorian features including a marbled Entrance Hall and original staircase and is a regular haunt for many of London’s creative community. Similar in prestige to other Payne Projects such as the Royal Automobile and Army and Navy Clubs in Pall Mall, the environment at The Arts Club demands that attention be paid to all services that are installed onto such a significant and beautiful building. Usage as an entertainment venue means that on site Emergency lighting must be serviced, tested, maintained and results recorded in order to comply with current regulations - SPECTO significantly simplifies this for the Club.

Part of the Philip Payne service is to visit sites to ensure that statutory requirements are met with minimal impact on contemporary, architectural or historic environments. Experience of many listed building projects ensures compromises are not required to meet modern demands, as any Payne product can always be customised or surface finished to compliment surroundings and, as a result, many specifying architects and designers have unofficially become members of the “Philip Payne Users Club”.

Probably the greenest light fitting in the world!

Known for it’s ability to navigate around architectural and design obstacles, Philip Payne were delighted to meet the finish requirements for their MF100 external final exit emergency luminaire specified by top consulting engineers K J Tait for The Dormy Clubhouse project at the Gleneagles Hotel Golf Resort.

The striking lines of the MF100 are already a firm favourite with designers as a stylish alternative to conventional emergency lighting solutions. It is normally supplied in silver or Graphite but in the RAL6005 selected by Tait to blend into this unique golfing environment, the product takes on a new dimension.

Primarily used as an emergency fitting, by utilising a 13w Citizen LED the product has found a new application in amenity lighting as perimeter and external landing lights. The RAL6005 colour selected is perfect in this application which on close inspection is also remarkably similar to the famous blazer worn by a select few top exponents of the game but would be equally at home at other lawned venues.

Special colours variants are not new for Philip Payne and many products have previously been selected for use on numerous prestigious and heritage projects.

Philip Payne Goes Gothic

Philip Payne has always been the Architect's Choice when it comes to emergency exit lighting, and we love a challenge, so when one of Britains finest architectural treasures underwent a recent restoration, we were more than happy to come up with a creative and sympathetic solution to the demands of the task.

Strawberry Hill - Twickenham

Considered one of the finest surviving examples of Georgian Gothic architecture and interior decoration, Strawberry Hill is a Grade I-listed Building. Located in Twickenham, Strawberry Hill was Horace Walpole’s experiment in Gothic revival which to this day is much talked about by architectural scholars.
Adding to its’ impressive back catalogue, Philip Payne supplied emergency lighting to the recently completed restoration works at Strawberry Hill, following a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

To ensure that the emergency fixtures (required now that the building has opened it’s doors to the public) impose as little as possible, Philip Payne introduced the notion of portable equipment. The free standing signs can be placed in position when public access is permitted and removed or relocated as required. This flexible solution ensures the signs do not permanently impose on the environment yet retain their function and adaptability.
Flexible solutions from Philip Payne

In areas where escape routes are fixed, product from the Payne Architectural range has been selected to minimize the impact on the building.

Thanks for visiting

from HelloTxt
Thanks to everyone who visited our stand at the ARC Show. This year saw a welcome return to the show’s original location at the BDC, Islington which I believe to be spiritual home for the show.

The show affords us a unique opportunity to meet with many of our existing friends and customers in the design community along with potential customers that are new to Philip Payne. Customer feedback was again very positive with many complimenting our unique position in an otherwise unremarkable emergency market, which they feel like me is often tarnished by low quality product.

Once again our extensive display of architectural Exit Sign products, including the new MINI CF were much admired and they all continue to find favour with design orientated clients. Many of our design clients have a high aesthetic requirement and by modifying our range both in appearance and mounting capability or by making specials we are able to meet practically any bespoke requirement.

We remain extremely proud of the fact that all of our products are MADE IN THE UK at our Solihull site. Recessing product to reduce the impact on a designed environment is always a popular design choice and increases in the performance of LEDs has afforded us new opportunities some of which were on display including the ever popular TYKE emergency down lighter which amazed many visitors with its remarkable new lumen output of 140 Lumens and BRAND NEW extended range of lenses that provide amazing coverage.

The BRAND NEW abstract feature board on this years stand demonstrated a multi level building scenario with it’s perspex avatars and fault simulation buttons it was able to demonstrate new extended functionality that has been added to the SPECTO system. It powerfully illustrated how electronics can be used to simplify emergency testing and fault reporting with centrally indicated switches at each level and an additional single central indicator that can be located adjacent to support staff at reception or control room to alert maintenance of a defect in safety critical product. All Philip Payne products can be supplied to operate on the SPECTO platform which has also been designed, developed and is manufactured at our factory in Solihull. Additionally all Philip Payne products are designed to include full DALI compatibility to meet the increasing demand for controllable Emergency Lighting.
